Hi Friends, I hope you all  had a great weekend.

I did. On Friday, I watched RAJNEETI. I must say with each film Ranbir Kapoor is proving that he is one of the most dependable stars of Hindi Cinema. His talent is comparable to that of Aamir Khan; and of course his youthful looks are so refreshing.

A.R. Rehman Jai Ho concert and me

This is  a painful visit of behind the scene  story of what exactly happened, and how we got in the line to host the show in Boston (albeit for a few days/weeks only!) in the first place.
Under normal conditions Boston has never been on the radar for such a high end and expensive set up for concert. Anyways lets start from the start. We got a call on an unseasonably warm day in mid March from an old friend JOHN DOE from London (Name changed for obvious reasons!).  We had not spoken in over 5 years, he got our phone number from a mutual acquaintance and said that he was co producing & coordinating the AR Rehman Jai Ho concert tour to North America and asked if we would be interested in hosting the show in Boston?
Even though we were skeptical of the possibility of it happening here; we showed full interest and kept following weekly, with telephone calls for open dates.
Within a few weeks it was clear that based on the cost of the show in NY, NJ and DC we would be grossly priced out. However to make it possible and more affordable to host the show in Boston, we suggested a weekday show instead, which could be purely a value added performance for the group. We quickly got a nod for June 16 and wheels were set in motion to block the said date at the auditorium. we posted it on the website to gauge audience response for a weekday show. As expected the response was amazingly overwhelming. We started getting telephone calls from people who were about to book tickets for the NY/NJ show asking us if they should wait.
Surprisingly, we  were  soon contacted by another local friend of "John Doe" who wanted to be involved in the project. Well, more the merrier. So now we had a team of people, all gang ho on the project. Gradually it dawned to us that this was really happening.

The contracts were signed  on May 3rd, and sent to London and  formal announcement  and confirmation was posted on our website. We had a little less than 6 weeks to pull this off, which was never done before in such a short notice. Website Jaihoboston.com was being designed and getting  ready, and preparations started in full swing. We started meeting with auditorium management, pricing, seating charts, contacting event sponsors, grocery stores for ticket outlets etc. The wheels were put into high gear, all hands on deck. We even had a junior college intern (son of a very dear friend!) join us for providing a helping hand for working the telephones, which were literally ringing off the hook.

Every sponsor we contacted readily agreed on, for sponsorship, no haggling whatsoever. We started getting calls from IT companies asking for purchasing  100+ tickets and looking for discounts. We were in no position to discount the tickets, given the astronomical cost of the show. Also our prices were amazingly low when compared to other centers; almost ½ , given that our show was on a weekday. I was in very good mood, all was going very well and we were very excited.
Well then came the bombshell! John Doe called and said he may have a logistical problem in bringing the troupe to Boston!!! Let me explain. For the first time in our history, an Indian performance group was traveling by road, (usually they fly!)  between shows all over North America. It was expected that they would perform in D.C. on Sunday 13th June and hit the road next day for Boston show on Wednesday June 16th.  en-route to Chicago to perform on Friday  June 18th. . The group consisted of 80 performers and technical staff travelling in buses along with 5 trailer-loads of sound, lights and video equipment for the concert. However, the technical crew was not willing to do the extra 800 miles in one week and shot down the Boston project, giving reason that it was not in their original contract. They were originally scheduled to leave DC on Monday for Chicago and decided to stick to their original contract terms. No amount of convincing would budge them from their original route. What a let down!

Our event management machinery came to an abrupt halt and we were forever explaining to callers why did this happened? We  also know John Doe tried his level best to make it happen but the situation was out of his control and we just could not swing it in our favor.
